As more people are working from home, there has been a heightened interest in and demand for home office furniture and equipment. If you’re like many of us, the furniture and equipment we rely on to help us get the job done needs to be functional, but we also it is needs to be attractive since it lives alongside us in our homes.
Is your home office setup up to the task?
The two of us share our home office space and we have changed our home office set-up a number of times since our initial home office set-up. We have swapped out desktop computers for laptops, gone back to laptops, added second displays, and re-arranged the furniture countless times. We bought a back-saving Aeron chair years back for one of us and tried saving money by purchasing a lower end Herman Miller chair only to end up buying a second Aeron chair because we both have bad backs. (Thankfully we were able to give our daughter the hand-me-down chair.)

So we could relate to the author of this The New York Times piece. With humor, he brings to light the struggles of finding the best home office equipment. And of course, what works for one, does not work for all. A home office set-up is such a personal choice – much more so than at the office of an employer where most choices are left to an office or facilities manager.
At home, so much depends on your own day-to-day needs, your personal aesthetic, other functions of the room and with whom you may be sharing the space. And don’t forget budget considerations. Whether you are working from home full time or expect this arrangement to be temporary will likely drive how much you are willing to spend on furniture and equipment.
